More Campeche Pictures

Campeche was such a photogenic city that It's impssible not to include some of the photos that I've just downloaded from the camera.

I think the city must constantly patch and paint to make Centro look good.

There was the Mexican equivalent of a thrift store on a corner near the old city wall.

And, on the other side of the wall, there were the remains of a Dia del Muerto altar.

More street scenes.

The picture below demonstrates how much of Centro is merely a facade, still awaiting restoration. There's not roof inside this window, but a forest of vegetations is thriving. These empty places live next to gracious, tasteful rehabs.

The Malecon--the promenade which fronts the sea. Every seaside Mexican town has one.

Plants prosper everyplace. Fence posts root and leaf out and roof cracks in ancient watch towers provide homes for seeds.

A Mexican rickshaw.

Herons returning in the evening.

Pigeons and triangles.

Not for the red/green color blind.

More color.

Not in Centro

When we came upon these last scenes in Campeche, we were a bit nervous, wondering if the Zapatistas had invaded from Chiapas and the army had been called out. Or it might be a strike of which the government disapproved.

It turned out that some one was making a movie.
