Celestun and Uman

We took the long way home from Dzibilchaltun and came through Celestun and Uman.

This picture was taken through the windshield of the car while driving. These three-wheeled bicycles are ubiquitious. The double wheels are on the front on either side of a substantial carrying basket and the single wheel behind, just the reverse of our tricycles. Everything is carried in them--water jugs, the family, groceries, bags of cement and concrete blocks, and in this case sugar cane. Some are used as taxis and some have been motorized and have awnings, but most are powered by people's strong legs and the pedaler is out in the sun.

Lunch on the beach at Celestun. Unfortunately, this restaurant didn't have Negra Modelo, but the fish with lots of garlic was okay.

Celestun is famous for flamingos. We did see some, far in the distance, but mainly we had to be satisfied with brown pelicans, here collecting by the fishermen who were cleaning their catch and throwing the offal to the birds.

Girls gossiping under the church wall in Uman.

And another through the car's windshield of a building in Uman with a quilted effect as a finish. I'm not sure when this was popular, but we've seen it several times.
