Wednesday's Walk in Merida

This is the silliest street mime I've seen so far.


Below is the main door into the Montejo house, now a bank. The Montejos were the Spanish family who finally subdued the Maya--that is until the War of the Castes in the 19th Century.


I wonder what they do in the Kamasutra parking lot?



Inside Mejorada church.




The Christians used a lot of Mayan imagery in their efforts to convert the Indians. Here you see the cross almost concealed by the rays of the sun and the corn--both sacred to the Maya--in Mejorada church.



This frightening fellow was encouraging me to buy tickets in the lottery.
