Miscellaneous Scenes

We've been quieter than usual. The entertainments, which we have enjoyed so much, have slowed down and the traditional dances and songs are more prevalent, that and a lot of Christmasy stuff that is similar to the States. The dancers wearing sweaters and mufflers make us feel very hot. Things should speed up after Christmas and even more in January when the city begins an art festival. We've thought they've been having one all along, so we are looking forward to seeing how things can improve. Also we'll be seeing some friends and family in January and we are very much looking forward to that.

Here are a few scenes from the last few days.

Inside Santa Ana church.

A walker on the street.

The living statue at night in the principal plaza downtown.

Today we drove to Dzitya (don't you love all the 'dzi' place names?) where there are many stone and woodworkers. There is also a Sunday thrift store in front of the little church.

Also in Dzitya they sell pirated videos of recently released movies and audio CDs in the plaza by the church.

The KFC at the NE side of Merida. Is it called 'chickyland' in the States?

The pictures below are of a new subdivision on the outskirts of Merida.

We saw two renegade houses--the one below and a single yellow one on another street.

Happy Christmas. Peace, love, and contentment. Pam and Kent
